Arogya Clubs

We at Arogya World believe it is time to implement serious youth outreach efforts in the US both to help the young people change their own lifestyles, and also to help us with program outreach to vulnerable US communities. The next generation has been identified as a key strategic target for non profits in the US, including those focused on India causes, especially after a 2025 analysis of Indian diaspora giving by Dalberg. Moreover, South Asians, Hispanic populations and African Americans – are at high risk for diabetes.

We are initiating a formal Arogya Clubs program from 2025 in the US. We see this as an important way of our thinking from the Global South informing programming in the US and is a key way for us give back to our communities in the US. Arogya Clubs will run as after school programs at schools and youth centers. The club model emphasizes student engagement, peer leadership, and family involvement.

Arogya Club @ Agape – An Atlanta pilot has been initiated in 2025. Inspired by the leadership of a local Atlanta high school student, and his family, who saw the urgent need for health education in communities in Atlanta, we have forged a partnership between Arogya World and Agape Youth and Family Center, to bring our proven Healthy Schools program to their middle school students from 7-8 Atlanta public schools. Agape runs enrichment programs for the kids mostly from vulnerable Latino and African American communities in Atlanta.

The 10 Arogya activities are being delivered by 6 high school student leaders ( Dev Katarya (leader), Sanay Raghavan, Alok Owen, Jayan Nath, William Mogos, Kubby Bhatia) to forty 6th and 7th grade Agape children in 2025. The first activity took place on Sep 30, 2025. Arogya has adapted and prepared the materials, including student handbooks and worksheets, will distribute and collect baseline and endline questionnaires, train the student leaders, and do data analysis. Agape will give us the space and access to their middle schoolers 10-12 times a year. The student leaders helped with materials adaptation, are implementing all activities and are also cooking healthy meals for all the Agape kids.
