Seema Bhatia, M.D.

Throughout her distinguished 30-year career, Dr. Seema Bhatia has worked tirelessly to bring medical care and increased quality of life to those who need it most. After receiving her M.D. with honors from Lake Harding Medical College in New Delhi and completing two Chicago-area residencies, Dr. Bhatia embarked on a successful career as an internist. Today, she serves as president of the Simran Foundation and sits on the boards of directors of several notable organizations, including A Silver Lining Foundation, an organization that ensures respectful and equal access to cancer services for all, and Arogya World, a global nonprofit working to prevent non-communicable diseases and Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Dr. Bhatia and her husband, Raj, are dedicated to improving lives in India; they were early members of the American India Foundation’s Chicago chapter and have served as AIF trustees for more than a decade, supporting the organization generously with both their time and treasure. Dr. Bhatia served as co-chair of the AIF Chicago Gala Committee in 2006, raising more than $600,000. When not dedicating themselves to their many worthwhile causes, the Bhatias enjoy spending time with their daughter, Ariana, and visiting their home in Naples, Florida.

Raj is the founder of the Bhatia Group, a leading wealth management team within the Private Banking and Investment Group at Merrill Lynch. For more than 30 years Raj has helped a select group of high net worth clients acquire, grow, and preserve assets, helping them pass their wealth to successive generations. He works with a select group of corporate executives, company founders, individuals, families, and family offices throughout the U.S.

Raj has a very well-regarded depth of experience in investment strategy, asset allocation and portfolio management. Barron’s magazine recognized him in its ranking of America’s Top 100 Financial Advisors in 2016 and 2017, as well as in its list of America’s Top 1,200 Financial Advisors in 2014through 2017. In 2014 through 2017, The Financial Times named Raj one of the top 400 Financial Advisors. Forbes magazine named Raj to its list of America’s Top Wealth advisors in 2017.

Raj earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, and his M.B.A. from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He is a designated Global Institutional Consultant and holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation, sponsored by the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) at the Wharton School. He is also a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association.

Raj is a charter member of the Entrepreneurs Association (T.I.E), a Silicon Valley-based organization that mentors entrepreneurs worldwide. In Chicago, Raj is a Trustee and a board member of The Adler Planetarium and a member of the Adler Investment Committee. He also is on the board of The Chicago Scholars and is an active member of its executive committee. Raj is also a trustee of the American India Foundation, an organization dedicated to catalyzing social and economic change in India.
