MyThali team taking to the streets of Bangalore

Posted on: July 23rd, 2024 by Arogya World

MyThali Arogya World launched their inaugural Street Food Vendor Training in July with great success. This collaboration with NIDAN, kickstarts their pledge to educate 500 street food vendors in Bengaluru, India’s first Arogya City.
  • Over 390 vendors have been impacted with 6 sessions so far, and 2 more to go.
  • Each session is done in Kannada and Hindi or Hindi based on the demographic.
  • An infographic baseline survey in Kannada is shared with the vendors before the session, and then an Endline to understand how our training has impacted their nutritional knowledge while overcoming any barrier of illiteracy.
  • The initiative highlights the vendor’s influence on India’s dietary habits and future health and urges them to help change the way India eats.
  • Vendors learn about healthier cooking methods, reducing oil and salt usage, and the impact of unhealthy eating on Non-communicable Diseases through infographics and simple tips
  • Each session is highly interactive, with vendors recognizing the demand for healthier options.
  • At the end of the session, each vendor is presented with a certificate of completion, an informative flyer in Kannada highlighting tips for healthier cooking methods and usage of salt and oil, and a special MyThali apron.
Our Street Food Vendors shared their views at the end of each session:
  • “I really liked the session very much and learnt a lot. I use Ruchi Gold Palm Oil mainly, but after today’s session, I understand why it’s unhealthy, and now I’ll look at using sunflower or vegetable oil more.” – Satish Naik, Chinese Fast Food Vendor
  • “The session was very informative and I feel street food vendors should be quality oriented and should not use the same oil for frying again and again.” – Akbar Sheikh, Chaat Seller
  • “I am very happy to be a part of the session and it was informative. I saw a lot of healthy practices that I also follow. I’ve never used Palm Oil for cooking and I know others that do. That’s why there is much need for sessions like this.” – Govindraju, Caterer & Street Food Vendor
