After Bengaluru, Arogya City Expands to Mysuru

An ICMR–INDIAB study reveals that in Karnataka, 1 in 10 people already lives with diabetes, and another 13% are pre-diabetic. That means millions are on the edge often without even knowing it. In a crisis this large, no single institution can change outcomes alone and we need shared responsibility and sustained action. That is exactly what we set in motion in Mysuru.

In December 2025, in collaboration with the HH Sri Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Foundation, Swastha Mysuru was launched, a second city-wide movement under the Arogya City initiative. Karnataka’s health minister Mr Dinesh Gundu Rao spoke at the event and was very positive about our efforts.

The program brought together government, companies, and institutions to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases, and make healthy living the easier choice, at scale. What is most noteworthy is that the Mysuru District Health Department, Government of Karnataka, under their Gruha Arogya program stepped forward and made a huge pledge – to screen 250,000 individuals for diabetes and hypertension.

20 organisations came forward as the first cohort of pledgemakers and committed publicly to health actions over the next two years. Their pledges span screening and early detection of diabetes, physical activity initiatives, better food environments, mental well-being support, and youth outreach.

This initiative is in line with our first Arogya City Bengaluru project that demonstrated what a structured city model can achieve. Mysuru will now build on that proven foundation.  Since the launch we already have the first activity on-ground which was held at Sri Vani Vilas Arasu Girls’ High School, Nazarbad, Mysuru.

In Mysuru, we continue to mobilise multi-sector partners and drive measurable action on the ground that helps us change the course of diabetes in India, one city at a time.
