Diabetes Prevention Earns a Place in Indiaspora’s 250 @ 250

Posted on: August 25th, 2026 by Arogya World

Arogya World’s founder, Dr. Nalini Saligram, has been named in Indiaspora’s 250 @ 250: The Indian American Story. It’s a landmark collection celebrating the 250th birthday of America and recognizes the moments and Indian Americans that have shaped American life across 15 fields.

Dr. Nalini joins an extraordinary group of physicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, journalists, artists, and cultural leaders whose work reflects the depth of Indian American contributions to the United States. She was included in the Healthcare and Philanthropy categories.

We are especially proud that diabetes prevention has earned a place in this important Indian American story.

Fifteen years ago, Dr. Nalini left a career in the pharmaceutical industry with this bold conviction that non-communicable diseases could be prevented at scale through science-based programs designed for people’s real lives. Nearly 30 million people reached later, that conviction has become evidence. And our work is now growing in both sides of the world – from India to the US.

The recognition feels even more meaningful because several people who have partnered with us, supported us, or contributed to Arogya World’s journey were also recognized in the list. We celebrate them all here.

In Healthcare & Medicine, in addition to Dr. Nalini, the 250 @ 250 list also has Dr. Alka Kanaya, Ashish Mathur, and Dr. Namratha R. Kandula, leaders whose work spans diabetes and cardiovascular research among South Asians, clinical care, and community-based prevention. These leaders have taken part in our science symposia, webinars and galas.

In Food & Culinary Arts, Chef Asha Gomez and Chef Srijith Gopinathan represent the power of food and Indian culture’s influence on American life. They both recently helped us bring the idea of “food as medicine” to the table at our Bay Area Gala.

In Journalism & Media, Sree Sreenivasan, our Bay Area Gala’s Master of Ceremonies and a valued supporter and pre-diabetes blogger, represents the power of communication to inform, connect, and mobilise communities.

In Entrepreneurship & Business, M.R. Rangaswami, our long-time supporter, and the founder of Indiaspora, reflects the ecosystem-building leadership that has brought Indian American entrepreneurs, innovators, and changemakers together.

In Philanthropy & Civic Life, our supporters, Minoo Gupta, Dr. Umang Patel, and Paragi Patel and others, embody the generosity and civic commitment that enable ambitious social ideas to become sustained impact. We also are also pleased India Philanthropy Alliance (Arogya World is a founding board member of the IPA) has been recognized.

Together, they reflect the remarkable community of Arogya World and the different ways they are improving American lives.

We are grateful to Indiaspora for recognising Dr. Nalini’s work and creating a place for it in the Indian American story. View the project here.
